On August 16, the 4 NCR BRGs with chapters at World Headquarters (WHQ) held the annual BRG Picnic at Old River Park under the theme “Winning with Diversity.” The 4 BRGs are: League@NCR, The Alliance (of Black NCR Employees), Women In NCR (WIN), and the Asian/Pacific American Association for Advancement (4A). This year, 4A was the host organization, with Sun Cutlip (their president) presiding.
We started with come Caribbean music while everyone filled their plates with some good picnic-type food, then after Sun’s introduction, we had a few remarks on diversity from Alan Chow of 4A and Tom Volpe of League. A singer then did an a cappella rendition of a ‘Bollywood’ song in her native Indian language, followed by a demonstration of Zumba dance and exercise.
Bill Nuti, NCR CEO, stopped by and made a few remarks on diversity, including his welcoming Bridie Fanning as Sr. VP for HR who will be joining NCR in a few weeks. Mr. Nuti then announced that one of Ms. Fanning’s first duties will be the hiring of a full-time Diversity Officer. A drawing for several door prizes was held and after we were given the answers to the crossword puzzle, we had a drawing for the grand prize. Only BRG members were eligible for this prize, which was won by Ritu Jain of 4A!
Everyone had a great time and we hopefully communicated the importance of diversity in NCR to everyone. For 2007, League has been tentatively tapped as host for the 2007 picnic!
